When the public debate is about the economy, the energy crisis, the rule of law or cybersecurity, researchers from AAU are often drawn into the conversation. This is shown in the Danish Association of Masters and PhDs (DM) Akademikerbladet's new report on the media's most cited experts in 2025 where six AAU researchers are once again among the 50 most cited experts.

The 6 AAU-researchers in top 50:

  1. 1

    Per Nikolaj Bukh

Professor of Management Accounting, Aalborg University Business School
No. 9 on the list with 460 citations.

  2. 2

    Brian Vad Mathiesen

Professor of Energy Planning, Department of Sustainability and Planning.
No. 16 on the list with 335 citations.

  3. 3

    Sten Bønsing

Professor of Administrative Law, Department of Law.
No. 19 on the list with 304 citations.

  4. 4

    Lars Krull

Senior Advisor and Banking Researcher, Aalborg University Business School.
No. 36 on the list with 190 citations.

  5. 5

    Kent Kristensen

Associate Professor of Health Law, Department of Law.
Nr. 44 on the list with 157 citations.

  6. 6

    Jens Myrup Pedersen

Professor of Cybersecurity, Department of Electronic Systems.
No. 48 on the list with 142 citations.

The defence and security policy agenda is clearly reflected in this year's Top 50 list, but climate researchers as well as Arctic and election researchers also have a good showing on the list.

Note: The article has been updated on January 30th to include an additional AAU researcher on the list. Initially, the article mentioned that there were five AAU researchers on DM's list. However, Associate Professor Kent Kristensen from the Department of Law is also one of the most cited experts in the media, but he was not originally listed as an AAU employee on DM's list.

About the study

Every year, DM Akademikerbladet publishes a list of the media's 50 most cited researchers.

The study was done by Retriever (formerly Infomedia) and based on a content search in Danish news media – print, web, TV and radio.

This is the sixth time that DM Akademikerbladet has published the list.
