The war in Syria scattered Omar Alraoui's family to the four winds. Back in 2017, he was alone in Denmark – without language or family – at only 21 years old. But Omar Alraoui took action. He worked hard on the language, worked as a cashier at Harald Nyborg and graduated from high school with the dream of becoming a doctor.

Now his dream has come true – he has completed his medical degree at AAU and graduated as a doctor.

"First and foremost, I am grateful for the warm welcome and support I received as a medical student in Denmark. It has been a challenging journey, but with the same opportunities as my fellow students, I fought to get where I am," says Omar Alraoui in Ugeskrift for Læger [Physicians’ Weekly] (in Danish).

He now begins a new chapter as a doctor, determined to use his medical skills to make a difference in Danish society. Initially, at the Department of Respiratory Diseases at Aalborg University Hospital, where he is doing his basic clinical training.
